EUVP VISIT STORY – Ms Roksolana Ivanova, Associate Professor of International and European Law

As a recent participant in the European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP), I had the unique opportunity to delve deep into the mechanics of theRoksolana Ivanova European Union’s most pivotal institutions. Over the course of my visit, I not only gained invaluable insights into the EU’s policy-making processes but also saw firsthand the profound commitment to maintaining and advancing Europe’s democratic values. Here is a glimpse into my journey through the EU’s corridors of power.

My visit was punctuated by a series of enlightening meetings with some of the EU's top policymakers and administrators. Notably, a discussion in Brussels with Mr. Klaus Hullmann about the role of the European Committee of the Regions underscored the importance of regional voices in shaping EU policies. The passion and precision with which these officials approach their work were profoundly inspiring.

A highlight of my visit was attending a live hearing in Luxembourg at the Court of Justice of the European Union, where the complexities of EU law unfolded before me during the deliberation of Case C-446/21, known as Schrems II. The case, focusing on data protection and privacy, illustrated the delicate balance the EU strives to maintain between upholding personal freedoms and facilitating technological advancement.

Beyond the meetings and hearings, a guided tour of the European Parliament back in Brussels offered a tangible sense of history in the making. Walking through the halls where Europe’s past and future converge, I felt a deeper connection to the Union’s mission of peace and unity.

Reflecting on my experience, the visit was not just an educational journey but a profound affirmation of my commitment to public service. The EUVP not only broadened my understanding of European governance but also reinforced my determination to contribute to public policy that champions human rights and democratic integrity.

Looking ahead, I am eager to apply the knowledge gained during my visit to my work. The insights from the EUVP have equipped me with a richer perspective on international relations and policy-making, which I plan to leverage in my future initiatives. The Programme has undeniably been a stepping stone for further achievements, and I look forward to a future where I can contribute to the global community with the same spirit of dedication and excellence that I witnessed during my visit.
