Global Europe Seminar

Event date

Two years of a global pandemic have changed Europe and the world. It has been deeply transformative for our economy and society, with emerging technologies bringing opportunities but also risks and challenges to our political systems and civil society. The Russian invasion of Ukraine brought war back to the European continent and overnight caused paradigm changes which could dynamise European Integration. It could be the geopolitical moment to foster a genuine EU Foreign and Security Policy able to secure peace on the continent.

Both crises together caused a widely felt uncertainty and severe disruption in Europe. But crisis and uncertainty also unleash new energy and open the minds to new and ambitious solutions, which could finally strengthen our Union. With foresight we can identify emerging trends and disruptive events, in the EU and globally, better understand the opportunities and threats that they offer, and how they affect our capacity to act. Such understanding can enable us to better promote our values and safeguard our sovereignty as a Union at the global stage.

In the historic setting of Schloss Leopoldskron, the Conference "GLOBAL EUROPE SEMINAR: Uncertain Future?!" will bring together thinkers and leaders from the worlds of politics, academia, business and culture. Together we will discuss trends and developments at European and global level, including strategic policy options for a postpandemic Europe that acts with geopolitical weight. The success of the conference depends on the active participation of all guests who are encouraged to share their ideas, learn from each other and create a new vision for our common future.

The conference is interpreted in English and German and will be open to the public through webstreaming. Central outcomes will be shared with the public after the conference.
